My bid ($6.43) was higher than the winning bid ($5.99). I hadn't had any problems until today.
*** I figured it out; my bid wasn't high enough (needed to be $6.49) to meet the minimum bid increment (damn) ***

Yes, that was due to bid increment system on eBay.
